Job Summary: This position requires an individual with a comprehensive background in GIS, spatial analysis, and cartography. This highly technical role provides essential support to all staff in the GIS team and the company as a whole. We are seeking an individual who can manage relationships with internal staff as well as external clients and partners. This self-directed position requires management of team projects, anticipation of tasks, and development of efficient workflows. The GIS manager will work collaboratively with our team, empowering staff to confidently use spatial tools and software as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership
- Providing guidance, direction, and delegation to the GIS team members.
- Encouraging collaboration and fostering a positive work environment.
- Conducting regular team meetings to discuss project status, challenges, and goals.
- Mentoring team members and helping them develop their GIS skills.
- Encouraging continuous learning and professional development among team members.
- Reviewing work performed by team members to verify adherence to project requirements and standards.
- Creating project plans, timelines, and budgets; and allocating resources effectively to ensure timely project delivery while monitoring project progress and addressing any issues that arise through the project lifecycle.
- Technical Expertise:
- Staying updated on the latest GIS technologies, tools, and methodologies.
- Providing technical support and troubleshooting assistance to team members.
- Evaluating and recommending software and hardware upgrades as needed.
- Acting as the primary point of contact for all clients regarding GIS projects. Understanding client needs and requirements, and ensuring they are addressed in project deliverables.
- Ensuring the GIS team's financial well-being through managing budgets, approving invoices, and maintaining optimal workforce capacity.
- Identifying potential new clients or markets for GIS services.
- Facilitating communication and coordination between GIS team members and other programs.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Knowledge of, and respect for, First Nations history, culture, and socio-economic contexts; keen interest in working for an Indigenous business seen as essential. Previous experience working in a First Nations community and/or business is an asset.
- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in GIS, Mapping, or Geomatics.
- 4+ years of experience working in GIS and Mapping consulting.
- Proficiency in ESRI Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and other relevant software applications.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
- Highly organized self-starter with attention to detail.
- Adaptive to tight deadlines, changing priorities, and team requests.
- Valid BC Driver’s License and vehicle
Travel: Limited travel may be required for meetings or training.
Working Hours: 35 hours per week, occasional overtime as required.
Compensation: $43-$50/hr CAD; plus Extended Health Benefits & Pension Plan
