Job Summary: The Accounting Manager plays a pivotal role in managing the day-to-day financial activities of Inlailawatash with a hands on approach. This position involves ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, maintaining compliance with relevant regulations, and contributing to the budgeting processes
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management:
- Manage the day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger activities, payroll operations, and tax related responsibilities.
- Manage the preparation of financial statements, reports, and tax filings.
- Ensure compliance with accounting principles, standards, and applicable laws, including regulations specific to First Nation owned businesses.
Budgeting:
- Collaborate with relevant programs to develop and monitor annual budgets.
Financial Reporting:
- Generate and analyze financial reports for presentation to senior management and key stakeholders.
- Maintain transparency and accuracy in financial reporting.
Payroll Operations:
- Oversee the payroll process, ensuring accuracy, compliance with regulations, and timely processing, including payroll tax calculations.
- Collaborate with HR to ensure seamless integration between financial and payroll systems.
Audit and Compliance:
- Coordinate external audits.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and internal policies.
Team Leadership:
- Build, lead and mentor the accounting team, fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to the direct reports.
Process Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for process improvement in financial procedures.
- Contribute to implementing best practices to enhance the efficiency of financial and payroll operations.
New System Implementation:
- Actively participate in the new system implementation, ensuring a smooth transition and optimal system utilization.
- Collaborate with IT and other relevant programs to define requirements and streamline processes.
Ad Hoc Projects:
- Contribute to ad hoc projects, providing financial expertise and insights to support organizational initiatives.
- Undertake special projects as assigned by leadership, ensuring successful and timely completion.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Professional accounting designation (CPA) is required.
Experience:
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive accounting and financial management experience.
- Previous experience working with First Nation or similar organizations is an asset.
Technical Skills:
- Proficient in financial software (Quickbooks Online) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
Communication:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to convey complex financial information in a clear and understandable manner.
Leadership:
- Proven leadership and team management skills.
- Ability to inspire and motivate a team towards common goals.
Working Conditions:
Physical Demands
- Significant desk work with long periods of manual dexterity activities
- Occasional scanning and collating of financial documents.
- Occasional travel as required.

- Highly sensitive financial, legal, confidential, and political issues.
- Engagement with other programs. Limited interaction with clients, contractors, levels of government and First Nations.
- Occasional meetings outside normal office hours.
Travel: Although this position is primarily office based, there may be a portion of time spent traveling
Working Hours: 35-hour per week, overtime as required.
Expected Start Date: As soon as possible, willing to wait for the right candidate.
Compensation: $45-60/h CAD; Plus, Extended Health Benefits & Pension Plan
